The worldâs most popular video
game console, the Atari 2600 Video Computer System has been in just about
everyoneâs life. Whether we realize it or not the Atari actually paved the
way for systems like Nintendo and Sega. The downfall of the
older
systems such as Intellivision and Colecovision along with Atari was a
cartridge ãglutä and since there were so many games with almost no game
play
to mention, (the games were just bad) the fallout of the business was
sealed. Without Atari, there would be no NES, Xbox, or Playstation.
Nintendo has seen and
survived the crash of 83â and 84â when everyone thought that with the fall
of Atari, they had
seen
the fall of video games. This wasnât the case, however as we all can see.
Since the birth of the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) also called
Famicom in Japan the video game industry has yet to see another crash and it
is doubtful that there will even be another. In 1985 the NES was released,
generating huge amounts of money for the market, thus we have the SNES,
Gamecube, N64, Gameboy, and Gameboy Advanced. Though the systems were
popular, it was some of the games that kept it alive such as Zelda and Mario
Bros. Without these, I'm sure Nintendo would be a much lesser known name.
The birth of the Playstation
marked another milestone in the vid eogame
world. CDâs were to be used for games instead of the traditional
cartridges. The CDâs would last longer than the cartridges and they didnât
require batteries for the RAM to
save
games. The Playstation was also able to play music CDâs as well. After the
Playstation came, Sega Saturn, Sega CD, Ps2, Gamecube, and Xbox, all of
which play CDâs. Cartridges are now obsolete. |
