Mrs. Applegate, a math teacher, was getting ready for her first class of the day. As she was getting her belongings organized she came across an old yearbook from the school. It had been published in the late 1950's. She chuckled at she looked at some of the pictures and thought of the past. As she was reminiscing to herself about the many ways teaching had changed during her career, Danny walked in and sat down. Danny asked Mrs. Applegate what she was looking at and she explained: ãWhen I first started teaching conditions were very different, not as bad as they are in these yearbook pictures, but a lot different than the way they are today. We had to use a mimeograph to print our handouts for class. We also had these old calculators, not as complex as the ones we have today. All they did was basic math--add, subtract, multiply and divide. Back in the day we had to use overhead projectors with acetate rollers to enlarge things on the wall or a screen. " |
