Educational Principles & Practice at Neveh Channah

From its inception, Neveh Channah's framework and programs have been designed based on the belief that school is first and foremost a place of education. To accomplish this, it has expanded its educational activities beyond the standard teaching hours. The following aspects represent the influence of these beliefs on the educational framework:

1. There is an extended school day. (A hot lunch is served to the girls.) The additional hours are used for the following purposes:

* In depth Torah studies with an emphasis on studying, understanding, and observing the Torah Commandments.
* An educational program that deals with relevant topics and educational subjects that are related to the religious and social world of the students.
* The "Aishet Chayil" (Woman of Valor) program which is geared towards preparing the girls for their role in life.

2. One of the values that Neveh Channah, as an educational institution, aims to instill in its students, is the importance of community involvement. The  students volunteer in the community  once a week. They assist children with learning disabilities, help blind and elderly people, etc. The school works together with the students and instructs them in planning these activities.

3. Neveh Channah devotes special attention to creating a "family-like" atmosphere in the relationships between the students themselves, and the students and the staff. Frequent individual conversations with the homeroom teachers and close contact with the counselors exemplify the attention which is paid to the students.

4. The long school day is divided between Jewish Studies and General Studies. The students are well prepared for advanced academic studies. Over the years a rich curriculum has been developed, one which allows the students to achieve high grades in the National Matriculation Examinations in a wide range of subjects. Mathematics and English are taught on various levels. Major Concentrations in the following subjects: Physics, Biology, Computer Science, Israeli Geography, Literature, History, Music and Arts.

6. Emphasis is placed on giving the students Information Literacy Skills which will enable them to become Life Long Learners. Information technology is integrated with curricular subjects to enable the students to learn by inquiry and research. Distance learning and project collaboration with students across the globe are an important part of our educational activities.
